Back in action

Though the AFS show in February didn't happen, that doesn't mean that GYE has completely given up on this endeavor. We are still very much committed to helping raise money for schools and getting creative artists more exposure. Currently, we are looking for schools (preferably private at the moment as they are easier to work with than trying to get through the entire school board) and artists (musicians, painters, filmmakers, writers, etc.). If you know a school that needs money, please let us know: nadiyahak@growingyouth.org.
Any artists wanting to participate in the event, please send us photos/samples of your work: submissions@growingyouth.org

AFS 2/26/11 CANCELLED

Due to a number of unforeseen difficulties, we regret to inform you that the AFS creative arts show that was scheduled for the 26th of February at UAIS has been cancelled.  We would like to thank all of our vendors and sponsors for their support.  We look forward to working with you all the next time we plan an event like this.

Please stay tuned to this blog as we will be posting updates on our progress with planning another event...or anything else we do.

Free Admission

Hello All, more updates.  Firstly, the principal of UAIS vetoed the babysitting (I was under the impression she already knew about it, but clearly I was wrong) so we will not be doing that.  In other news, it was suggested that we lower the admission fee to zero and allow people to purchase tickets when they get there if they want food and to participate in the drawing for dinner for two.  So, that is what we will be doing.

So, come one, come all.  and now for free!!! Yaaaay!!!

More Ways to Participate

Hello All, we have news...and it's good.  We have made some changes to the layout of the show and the exhibitor contract.  But first, the deadline for artists submissions has been extended to 2/21/11.  Get those pics in asap.  You can send them to submissions@growingyouth.org

Now the contract.  If you want to participate, but you're thinking the $50 for a booth space may be a bit too much for you right now, that's not a problem.  You now have the option to either pay the $50 or sell three (3) pairs of tickets.  We have a few artists who have chosen the selling option.  Just contact us and let us know what you want to do.

And the layout.  If you want to participate, but don't really feel like you have enough work to justify buying a whole booth, you may now donate the work for our silent auction table.  This is perfect for those of you who only have a few pieces of work lying around your house and you're willing to donate them to a good cause.

We will also be offering a child care service during the show.  Some of the school's seniors along with one of the TA's has offered to watch patrons' young ones while the adults are enjoying the show.  The service is $5 per child per hour.

I do believe that is all of the updates for the day.  Thank you for reading.

Artists for Schools, 2011

Hello and welcome to the new site.  Please be patient as we are still updating information.

We are planning to have our first of many Artists for Schools art shows on February 26th of 2011.  The show will be held in a local under-funded private school, UAIS.  A portion of the proceeds from the Artists for Schools event will go the the school.  Our hope is that this first show will allow us an entrance into the public school system where we can help even more under-funded schools.

Help us start the New Year by helping our community one school at a time.  Purchase tickets at the sidebar to your right or email Nadiyah Abdul-Khaliq for more information.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you.
